Here are descriptions of some of the workshops I can share with teachers, school districts and parent organizations.

Special parent workshops for your school's parents and families -- "What's Online for You and Your Child", a look at what is fun AND educational for parents and caretakers of children 4-11 years old. This session is a wonderful Parent Organization meeting or special parent meeting for your school. You may want to host this as an evening meeting - I can even work with teachers during the day and with parents in the evening!

Sample Workshops

Internet for Beginners

This workshop is designed for the Net ‘newbie’. We’ll start from scratch and you will learn all that you need to know to get started using the Internet and begin thinking about how it can help you teach. Participants begin to feel comfortable with the Internet as they learn short cut tools, different browsers and the function of browser buttons, using and organizing FAVORITES or BOOKMARKS, navigating a web site, and much, much more!

Searching the Web Effectively
(Without Losing your Mind or Your Way)

Participants will learn the more than just the basics of search engines and directories. Participants learn some nifty tips, tricks and techniques to refine searches. In addition, participants will learn some of the newest tools and software tools for finding what they are looking for online. In hands-on workshops, participants will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired search strategies and techniques by using numerous key search and meta-search engines to find items and resources they can use in their classrooms immediately.

 

What's Out There?
(AND How Can I find it Without Losing Anymore Sleep!?)

The Internet can be an overwhelming place to look for "just the right" lesson plan, resource, picture or idea. In this workshop, participants will explore some of the best sites for finding the educational treasures the Internet holds. They will visit specially selected sites that offer lesson plans, unit ideas, and other amazing resources. Participants will also learn how to use a variety of "search tools" to find what they are looking for. Some beginning classroom management of these resources will be included.

 

Online Tools for Literacy
(elementary level)

Explore the wealth of resources online to help you teach, and your students learn, in many areas of literacy. Resources for phoneme awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and more will be shared. There will be a good mix of resources and tools for teachers as well as those to be used by students. This session is appropriate for net experts and newer users as well, and can be tailored to specific grade levels.

Using Technology to Enhance Language Arts

Participants in this workshop will explore how technology can be integrated throughout their language arts curriculum. We will explore a variety of websites that will help teachers motivate and educate students in writing, reading, spelling and more of the Language Arts areas. We will also explore places where teachers can find numerous resources on children’s books and literature. Participants will learn about technology-rich projects that will integrate reading and writing skills. Teachers will leave with at least one idea ready to use in their Language Arts instruction.

 

Math Online? COUNT ON IT!

During this workshop, teachers will explore many exciting math websites. Teachers will learn about different Internet and computer-based projects in the area of math and how they can be integrated into other curriculum areas, as well. We will also discuss how to evaluate Internet and computer-based projects in these areas. Participants will be given the opportunity to develop their own plan for incorporating online Math projects, resources and activities into their classrooms.

Where in the Online World is all the Good Stuff?
(The Internet in Social Studies)

During this workshop, teachers will explore numerous social studies websites. Teachers will learn about different internet and computer-based projects in the area of social studies and how they can be integrated into other curriculum areas, as well. We will also discuss how to evaluate internet and computer-based projects in these areas. Participants will be given the opportunity to develop a plan for using these projects and resources in their own classroom projects and activities.

Pre-K to 2
What's Online for You?

This will focus on the youngest learners and how to find the best and most useful online resources, activities and tools for classes from pre-kindergarten through second or third grade. Participants will learn what to look for in assess online resources for non- and emergent readers. In addition, teachers will learn where to find useful websites and other web-based resources designed just for them. Participants will get useful advice to help them use technology more effectively in their classrooms. 

Making Math Fun
Manipulatives, Literature and the Internet

This workshop will give teachers in grades K to 5, dozens of ways to make math "fun". Teachers will learn about online math games, online virtual manipulatives, great literature books and classroom activities that teach children important math skills and thinking skills.

 

Taming the Monster
(Classroom Management for the Wired Classroom)

This workshop will share ideas and suggestions about managing the technology in your room, maintaining order in the classroom and ways to help organize technology-rich experiences. Many suggestions and ideas will be presented about ways to share new projects and skills with students.
